The Best Edibles
By: Casey Harding-Brown
I have been smoking/consuming marijuana for 16 years. I have been smoking/consuming marijuana, legally, for 10 years. In my opinion, the best thing about weed getting legalized (besides no longer having to work around your dealer's schedule, pretend like you're friends and hang out for more time than you want so they don't get their feelings hurt when they realize the relationship is strictly business. Pineapple Express wasn’t just a funny movie-it’s based on true events) is quality control. My old memories of taking edibles are more like nightmares. You just never knew what you were getting into and one time I actually got the point where I was throwing up from making the classic "I don't feel it, I'm going to eat more" move, on what I now realize was probably a 200mg edible.
Now I eat edibles almost every day, fear-free! Every edible on the recreational side will be dosed with 10mg of THC at most. This makes it easy to know how much you're consuming, what your body can tolerate and what your mind prefers. Another plus from legalization is with quality control and competition, came better flavor. I used to feel like I was eating straight-up flower fresh off the plant. The odor and taste were often overwhelming, and while a lot of people really like that earthy flavor, it's a huge turn off for me.
Since Colorado put legalizing marijuana on the ballot and it passed (I was 19 and it was my first time voting!), I have tried countless edible brands and while most of them do the trick, I have narrowed it down to my top five. I will always ask dispensaries what edibles they have on special so I can keep trying new ones but time and time again these brands have proven to be the best in terms of effect and flavor. I found that similar to smoking, there are different strengths of strains and not all 10mg edibles are created equal.
DISCLAIMER: Everybody is different when it comes to the effects of marijuana use. This is an article based on my personal experience and opinion.
Depending on what type of strain you're looking for (sativa, hybrid, indica, CBD) you'll be indulging in flavors and textures reminiscent of starburst, tootsie rolls, and caramels. I am usually an Indica girl and find that some Sativas make my head too racy and anxious but their Sativa edible gives me that perfect giggly, ‘life is good’ feeling. When I find Sativas I like, I am a loyal fan for life. I also love their Sleepy Chews that have the perfect mix of THC, CBN and Melatonin to help you wind down and get a good night's sleep. As someone who has issues with my circadian rhythm and is naturally a night owl yet has a 9-5 job, these have been a lifesaver.
I LOVE sour gummy candy so these hit the spot. Sometimes I have to remind myself there is marijuana in these edibles so I don't accidentally eat the entire container. Thank god for child-lock because even as a 31-year-old it's difficult for me to open and serves as a reminder not to pop these like sour patch kids at the movies. I take these when I'm looking for a more all-encompassing body and mind high. Perfect for a Netflix and chill night.
Since these are pills, this review has nothing to do with taste and everything to do with how they make me feel. These are great for everyone but especially those who are just starting to experience with marijuna/edibles or anyone who just wants a little “boost” without a strong high. They have different options for elevating energy, brainpower, arousal, mood etc and have options as low as 2.5 mg of THC per serving.
I recently stumbled upon these during a sale at livwell and boy am I happy I did! These are another sour gummy candy but they’re extra sour and juicy. The texture and flavor is amazing. I think it has to do with them being more circular than square so the center gets nice and plump. I love the hybrid one of these because it gives me a perfectly balanced body and head high but doesn’t glue me to the couch. They also have a THC “Elixir” drink that comes in numerous flavors like berry/cherry lemonade and fruit punch. I like to add 1-2 servings (the cap doubles as a jigger) to my drinks at any point in the day to lighten my mood (1 serving) or chill me out (2 servings). I find that since I mix it with a glass of water (or cocktail), the effects are more mellow because my system is getting it more gradually as opposed to all at once with a regular edible.
These bars are a great edible for people who aren't into gummy candy. Their peanut butter buddha bar is one of my all-time favorites but they have a wide array of flavors, including the fan-favorite- cookies n cream. I took the medical version of these bars a few times in college and if I remember correctly (and since we're talking about being extremely high off edibles, I might not) they were 100 mg PER serving. Oh my god. We would take nibbles of these and go to parties, forget we ate them, and end up cross-eyed and confused in an hour’s time. Now that they have recreational bars and each serving is 10 mg I can appreciate the effects of these bars without going overboard. I definitely think these pack a big punch for their size and therefore make it a good bang for their buck.

If you love caramels, you WON’T wanna miss this one. There’s no funny business here- it just tastes like a buttery, delicious caramel and I find the high is a more medium-intense, but a hybrid effect so I don’t feel overwhelmed by it. If you’re not a big caramel person they have other edibles to choose from. I’ve never tried anything besides their caramels but I am sure they’re equally delicious and effective.
