MAKE YOUR BED

Starting your day with an accomplishment, no matter how small, boosts your mood and sets you up for a productive day. Gretchen Rubin, author of “The Happiness Project”, indicates that a simple way to be happier is to make your bed every morning. It’s also the easiest way to make your room look clean and organized which is always nice if you’re working from home or coming home after a long day.

STAY OFF YOUR PHONE/ELECTRONICS

Give your brain some time to wake up before getting sucked into your social media feed or work emails. This will allow you to have a more peaceful and productive morning. I recommend 20-30 minutes of no electronics right when you wake up. Treat the morning like your personal time and take it seriously. You have all day to lurk your ex’s new gf or respond to work issues.

DRINK A GLASS OF WATER

Drinking a glass of water helps wake up your brain and body, rehydrate from the night before and can help curb your hunger. Adding lemon juice is a great way to get some vitamin c in first thing in the morning and help detoxify your body.

STRETCH/WORKOUT

Even a quick 5-minute stretch or walk around the block can provide both physical and mental benefits. If you have time for a full work out, even better! But don’t let minimal time deter you from getting moving in the morning. Every bit counts!

Meditation and gratitude morning routine

MEDITATE/EXPRESS GRATITUDE

I have become a new fan of mediation. I try to start or end every day with a mediation (or both!) I personally use the Insight timer app, although I have heard good things about headspace and calm as well. Meditation and gratitude is scientifically proven to improve your mental state. I recognize mediation is not for everyone though so a simple task I recommend to everyone is expressing three things you’re grateful for every morning. Writing it down is most effective but you can also just say or think of three things while showering or brushing your teeth!
